The university automatically opens a bank account at the on-campus bank (TMB Bank) for all full-time employee.

If you wish to open an additional bank account elsewhere, you will need, as an non-Thai, to provide a copy of your work permit and a copy of your passport. A letter of recommendation from your employer may be required as well.

Usually banks provides a current account together with savings account.

Once you have a bank account it is easy to obtain a debit card (ATM card) and may be done while opening your account.

Credit cards are more difficult to obtain. Each bank has a different policy concerning the minimum annual income to be earned in order to be eligible for a credit card account. Some local banks even do not give credit card account to foreigners at all.
